WHEN I JOINED THE 9PANDAS BRAND, I WAS TASKED WITH DEVELOPING A NEW VISUAL IDENTITY FOR THE TEAM.


THERE WAS A LOT OF SKETCHING, AND AS A RESULT, I CREATED A CONCEPT THAT WAS INITIALLY APPROVED BUT REJECTED ON FINAL STAGE.


THE MAIN IDEA WAS TO FIND A FORM FOR WHAT HAD ALREADY BEEN ESTABLISHED AS THE TEAM'S SPIRIT. THIS WAS A BOLD APPROACH THAT EVOKED STRONG EMOTIONS FROM THE GAME.


HOWEVER, DURING THE RESEARCH PROCESS, IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THE NUMBER 9 DID NOT CARRY ANY SIGNIFICANT MEANING.


ADDITIONALLY, THE PANDA AS AN ANIMAL WAS DEEMED TOO DULL FOR A BLACK AND WHITE STYLE. SO I WENT THE OTHER WAY: A PALETTE OF BRIGHT, CRAZY COLORS BECAME THE BASIS FOR A BLOCK SYSTEM THAT WAS FLEXIBLE AND IMPRESSIVE.




EQUALLY IMPORTANT WAS THE TASK OF CREATING A STYLE THAT WOULD STRONGLY DISTINGUISH THE TEAM FROM ITS COMPETITORS. WHILE EVERYONE REMAINED WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF A STYLE THAT HAD BECOME RIGID OVER TIME, I PROPOSED GOING FOR RADICAL DIFFERENCES BY DELIBERATELY BREAKING THE RULES OF THE GAME.
